The New York Giants have signed RB "Jersey" Joe Martinek to their practice squad today while terminating the contract of DE Craig Marshall.
Martinek has been a local favorite since he played at Hopatcong High School in Morris County then starred at Rutgers. The G-Men released him on August 27th after he spent all of the preseason with them, including training camp, mainly as a FB.
I'm taking an educated presumption that the concussion suffered by RB Andre Brown is more on the serious side that could keep him sidelined for a while. Many of us in the media thought that Martinek was an ideal candidate for the practice squad where he could've used the year to both bulk up and learn the Giants system. Marshall was very impressive in training camp and the exhibition games as well as he seemed to be attacking the QB at will, albeit against other teams' 2nd and 3rd teams.
Welcome back Jersey Joe!!!!!
