The New York Giants, 6-2 and with a 2 1/2 game lead in the
NFC East, had 2 more players earn accolades this week.
First off, S Stevie Brown has
been named the NFC's Defensive Player of the Week for his dominating performance
against the rival Dallas Cowboys this past Sunday. Brown is the second
Giants safety in the last 3 weeks (Antrel Rolle) to have been bestowed this
award. On the day, Brown had 2 interceptions, a recovered fumble and had
six solo tackles. Like I have stated on this site for a few weeks, Brown
has been playing like the early, pre-injury version of the player he has
replaced, Kenny Phillips.
Secondly, K Lawrence Tynes has
been named the NFC's Special Team Player of the Month. Tynes made 13 out
of 14 field goal attempts and was 12 for 12 in extra points during the month of
October, in which the team played four games. Also, Tynes had nine
touchbacks in this duration as well. Along with Brown's big game on the
defensive side on Sunday, Tynes booted 5 field goals. He currently stands
as the NFL leader with 26 field goal attempts, 24 field goals and 94 points.
Thus far, this has been the best season of his career.
With these two awards this week, it brings the
Giants’ total to five on the season. The G-Men have received four Player
of the Week Awards and Tynes' Player of the Month.
Congrats to these Giants players for their
well-deserved recognition!
